Prelude to Change

Post  Lunar Star on Sat Jan 07, 2012 5:13 am

“Fate is broken by the chains that bind us to one destiny. Don’t ever stray to a place where you lose freedom…..” Those were dying words of my adoptive father. It was a sad day for my brother Solar and I. Wiping tears away, we began to live out our legacy. The skies above began to storm. Rain pounded against the roof. Thunder echoed about, while lightning was dancing about. It was so weird, accepting the fact that he is gone… I didn’t know what to do. IT was the same as before, when we lost our home long ago. Solar seemed unchanged, I think he was just trying to stay strong for me. I knew though, he was hurting as well. After finishing the burial, Solar and I walked inside. He suggested we have some tea, and just try to relax. It was hard, ya know? I’m not use to the losses of people who are close to me…

Solar: Hey, Lunar you going to be ok?
Me: Yeah… I’ll manage I guess.
Solar: Ya sure? You can come to me if you need help.
Me: Naw, it is time I grew up. I have to learn to face this and not break.
Solar: Whatever, if you say so.

Too much was going through my mind, I decided rest would do me best…
I began smeling smoke, as I was dreaming of a random lady I never seen....There were screams everywhere, and I smelled fire. It was a confusing moment for me. I rushed out the door to see what was happening. The whole village was on fire. Every I looked I saw the dancing flames burning homes down. Mangled, corpses in a sea of crimson scattered throughout the village.. It was too brutal to comprehend, what monster could do such a thing. I started running, trying to find Solar. I was hoping maybe he knew what was going on. Everywhere, I turned bodies were mutilated, set ablaze, or worse. The smog from the burning wood of the homes began chocking my lungs. I need to find Solar and get out of here… I kept running for what seemed to be hours, until I collapsed to the dirt. My vision was fading. I figured I starting to hallucinate. A dark figure that I couldn’t make out, started walking towards me. I tried to stand, but was having difficulties doing do. I kept stumbling. The best I got was to one knee. Closer and closer he came. I feared this would be my end. The mysterious figured then reached its hand out. I closed my eyes, not wanting to see what horror that would await me. I felt its hang grab me by the side and harm. I was being hoisted to up, as if he was it was helping to me to my feet.

????: Hey, we gotta go!
I knew that voice, it was Solar.
Me: What is going on, why are we under attack?
Solar: There is no time to explain, we have to go now!

He ran towards the west. I followed without question. It was hard to keep up with all the smoke and fire about, but I eventually got use to it. We ran for what seemed to be forever, passing the same sights along the way. Solar seemed to be leading us away from the town. I looked back before crossing into the dark lush forest ahead. Something was calling me, as if pleading that I have to return.

Solar: Lunar! Are you crazy? Don’t go back there!
Me: I have to. There is something calling me.
Solar: … Fine, I’m coming to. Can't let you die. I mean who else will be around to be my sidekick?
Me: I would never do such a thing, and come one really. Me a sidekick? You are funny.

Together we ran back. The voice began to grow louder and louder the deeper we went back into the village. It seemed it was beckoning us to go to the town square. I was afraid, yet curious to find out what was . Once we arrived in the town square, everything was dark. Just pitch black. No fires, no screams of the dying villagers. Just darkness and silence. This was so eerie, Solar and I just waited for something to jump out and kill us. Fear began rushing images and sounds in my mind, if only that was case. Solar was quivering the same as I. We both knew something was coming. I can feel it, as well as I know he can. Lightning stroke the center fountain. Illuminating the whole area. There we saw a man. Just standing there. Eyes blazing with an icy cold feel to them. Black hair, covering them slightly.

Solar: Who…Who are you?
He says nothing, but returns the question with a bone chilling smile.
Solar: …What is so funny? Did you do this?!
????: Aahahahaha maybe my hand had a part in this, maybe it didn’t. Doesn’t matter, they were destined to die anyway…

Solar: What are you talking about?
????: You will understand, when the time is right. Now, I set the stage. Will the puppets come to play, as I pull their strings? Ahahahaahahahaha, let us see if you escape the destiny set fourth for you….
Me: What? What do you mean?
????: Be gone, you have no use “now”….
The mysterious stranger conjured a dark magic, or something. I don’t know what to call it. It was dark and grew in his hand. He then threw it towards me.

Solar: Lunar!!!

Solar pushes me out the way and takes the blast. After the black flames dispersed Solar was nowhere to be found. In a blind rage I rushed at the mysterious man, only to suffer the same the fate. As the flames of darkness consumed what was left of my body, I saw the scene of crimson wings coming from his body. He flew off, into the night sky. Then everything turned to blackness…..

Nice. Is this the beginning of your tale, or a continuation of WKC?

This actually reminds me a lot of the beginning to NWN 2's first chapter lol, the scripting seems appropriate for a 1st person rpg style game by the looks of things.

Might wanna change a few spelling mistakes, I know the whole grammar nazi thing is my niche and it's a pain being told this, but in some parts a couple mistakes compleeeetely change the meaning of the sentence, and it ends up causing a metaphorical situation to appear in my head that distracts me from the intended dark and evil air of the story :s

(i.e. ~ The thunder stroke kind of made me think of booming clouds suddenly having a stroke and forgetting their name, or thunder stroking the clouds even though it's just the result of friction between the colliding clouds xD lightning struck* and you're good to go chief!)

Other then that, I liked it and I shall continue reading through what you've written :3
